One of the most positive things we have seen during the last couple of years of the Covid 19 pandemic has been the growth of the network cable industry. We are putting this down to the need for everyone to have fast networks to cope with the amount of online Zoom and Team meetings that are happening every day. This requirement has seen our clients need more engineers and they have turned to network cable installer apprenticeships to fill their staffing requirements.

Network Cable Installer Apprenticeship

The Network Cable Installer Apprenticeship is designed for new entrants to the industry or for experienced engineers who want to improve their skills and knowledge. This programme is designed to equip apprentices with the knowledge and skills to work as network cable installer engineers.

In this programme, they cover health & safety, copper and fibre cabling, testing, network equipment, projects, network design and quality management. The mentor guides the apprentices through their knowledge and skills development.

How is the programme delivered?

This is a level 3 programme and takes 12-15 months to complete. The apprenticeship is delivered through block courses, webinars and online learning. In this programme apprentices will cover:

  • Health and Safety
  • Personal Development
  • Copper Cabling
  • Testing Telecoms Cables
  • Fibre Optic Cabling
  • Investigating and Defining Customer Requirements
  • Network Equipment
  • Projects and Network Design
  • Quality Management and Workflow

The block courses cover Copper and Fibre installation and lead to City and Guilds accreditation.

Completing the Apprenticeship

This is an apprenticeship standard so all apprentices have to go through the endpoint assessment process, also known as EPA. To complete the endpoint, apprentices will be required to:

  • Develop an online portfolio
  • Complete a discussion with an endpoint assessor
  • Practical Demonstration and Questions
