Described by previous apprentices as “Twelve months of learning for a lifetime of success”,  the Business Administration course ensures participants achieve a highly transferable set of knowledge, skills and behaviours that can be applied in all sectors, whether small or large businesses in the private, public or charitable sector.

Working closely with a designated course tutor throughout the course, apprentices will complete a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical work-based learning. This builds on their strengths and ensures that they grow in both competence and confidence, to understand and perform business principles and organisational processes.

Whether in their first experience of a business environment, or more established within their role, business administrators develop key professional skills and behaviours to thrive at both an individual level and for the benefit of the business.

These include understanding their tasks and responsibilities, communication skills (both written and verbal), working as part of a team, business documentation, information management, time management, working with change, understanding the wider business context and managing stakeholders at all levels.

They are encouraged to take a proactive role in their learning and development and to identify opportunities to learn from the experience of others, showing initiative, managing priorities, problem-solving and effective decision making.

Assessment is based on coursework and projects directly related to their role and is designed to demonstrate how they add value to the business by understanding an organisation’s purpose, aims and ways of working.

This level 3 apprenticeship typically lasts 12 months. The qualification provides a stepping stone to other career opportunities such as progression into management or leadership roles which may include a business development executive, a legal administrator or an administrative officer.

The Business Administration qualification also provides a platform for further development and pursuit of other higher education and development programmes such as Team Leader and Operational/Departmental Manager. To quote another successful participant, the  Business Administration qualification provides “Short term learning for lifetime skills and education”.
